dilemma of the canon rebel 400d and nikon d80

New to the site. I'm sixteen, no job currently because of school. I just got the samsung nv7 when it came out as an early christmas gift, but it really hasnt impressed me like I thought it would. I'm leaning towards the canon or nikon because I've been saving up some, dad's agreed to compromise, but i'm not completely sure which to side with. I've researched both a bit, but I just want some input.

Ok sorry...so what is this post about? Do you want info on cameras or criticism on your photos?

the xti d80 debate is all over this forum...so a quick search and you'll find lots of opinions on the topic.

I say if you have the choice of the two, go for the Nikon D80. It is a bit better, and certainly more durable

That said, I shoot Canon and have an XT.

I'm also 16. Get a job. You will love the money you make and the lenses you can buy.

I have an XTi too, it's okay... I have used a D80, and it is a better camera for sure. If I got the chance to choose one of them right now (and I didn't have any lenses for either of them) I would go with the D80.

I also got to use the D200 over the weekend, it's a great camera too
