Do you carry your camera?

I don't take it with me - unless I know for a fact that I'll be somewhere I'd like to photograph...sort of..

If I see something interesting, I write it on my phone, and then write it in a small notebook I use for ideas and inspirations.

I dont leave it in the car. You can ruin your equipment if you live in a cold area. If you have a really cold day, AA batteries can easily freeze and the battery acid can leak out.

I didn't know that about the AA's

I always have my camera...I also always forget my tripod. lol

I'm a salesman for a company that does hydraulic work for coal mines. So I'm constantly in the woods and usually get great photo oppertunities!!

I only bring my DSLR with me if I have a specific thing I want to shoot. I do bring my superzoom Canon SX30 with me all the time in its own small bag with extra batteries, SD cards and a polarizing filter. I just sling the bag over the back of the front passenger seat, so I can reach back and grab it in a hurry. There's always a small pocket digital left in the car too, a Pentax Optio Z10. It has a 7X zoom that gives me flexibility if I should need it. Used it just last week early in the morning when I saw rays of the sun shining through some dark clouds. I could have taken better shots with a better camera, but something was better than nothing.

I don't take my expensive cameras everywhere. I do have an old Canon Rebel film camera that I have no qualms using and abusing daily. lol

If I don't use that, then I just use my Canon PowerShot. For a 3 year old P&S, the quality is much better than the cheap $150 "multi-colored" cameras that seem to be so popular nowadays.

In a bag with the rest of my gear (except tripod, it has it's own bag), everywhere I go, it's always in my car unless I'm at home :) They are insured so if they get stolen I don't really care that much.

My camera wouldn't meet the deductable.

Yeah. Also; this is kind of common sense, but if you have your camera somewhere cool and then go inside a house or somewhere warm, DO NOT take the camera out immediately. Let the bag's temp. stablize to the room's temp., otherwise you can get condensation on/in the lens. The camera should be fine, but if this happens a lot then over time mold can develop inside the lens.

I'd like to bring the camera with me more, but for what I like shooting I find that what I need to carry for a DSLR just ends up with it being way too bulky for general trips out. Wildlife needs long glass and typically most of what I'll see when out is not standing right next to me - and once you start lugging large lenses around it just becomes impratical on general trips out (it either gets in the way or lives in the camera bag and never comes out).

Plus with no car I can't just leave it in the car and have it do the carrying for me.

I also tend to leave it at home when out with family or friends; unless the trip is for photos I find that a big DSLR setup tends to just dominate and get in the way. Plus when out with "non-photographers" I find that I don't do all that much shooting as I'm not looking for shots, I'm socialising/chatting with them (plus pausing to take a shot only annoys them as they have to wait ;))

My personal solution is to eventually purchase one of the hybrid cameras - an Olympus EP series or Panasonic G series camera. Something small enough that it can easily fit in the pocket or a small shoulder bag along with a half decent, small lens. Plus with the crop factor I only need a 200mm lens or so to get an angle of view similar to around 400mm on the DSLR. So I can easily get quality results with a lighter, smaller setup.

since i'm new to dslr and shooting film, i only take it when we are going out with the intention of a photo trip.

however, for the past several years, my digital camera always goes with me.

Oh yeah, I never take it right out of the bag, I knew that but thanks for making sure! :p

Okay, I lied. I do know that but I do it all the time.

For the most part, I only take a camera if I know I'm going to use it. Sometimes I will carry a small pocket sized camera, just in case. Not often though.

I bought my compact camera for just this reason. It is always either within arms reach or in my pocket.

I only take it when I'm planning to shoot. I like to take all the equipment I have or its noting. Hence I dont take my camera just for fun.

This camera bag, it's too small and I usually have to leave something out or have my flashes sticking out the top of it... On the plus side it's weather resistant :p
weather resistant unless you have your flashes sticking out the top =P
