Do you carry your camera?

I tend to take my camera around with me A LOT. I am constantly looking for interesting things to shoot and ways to improve my photography. I have a small photo backpack that I travel with that can fit one camera body, one lens, memory cards and a flash. Works perfect...I wear it and don't even know I have it on half the time : ) I'm a big fan of telling budding photographers to take their camera with them where ever they go...its great to just randomly practice when you see things that inspire you.

My dslr only goes with me if I'm going out specifically to take photos.

If I happen to come across some good light on a landscape or something like that, I'll snap a few shots off on my trusty iphone 4, which produces surprisingly good photos.

I guess I still must suck then, but I'm okay with that. I've been carrying mine with me everywhere I go for almost 40 years, and I don't see that ever stopping. It is always within arm's reach, if it's not hanging off me.

It's funny... People often ask me how in the world I just happened to be in the right place at the right time AND had a camera and gear capable of capturing "that" particular moment. Sometimes they ask why there's a tripod that lives in my back seat on the floorboards. To me it's simple - those "moments" happen around us all the time, unexpectedly. I take my gear so that I can deal with the unexpected whenever it shows up and says "LOOK AT MEEEEEEE!!!" I already know the next one is coming, just as sure as I know that I'll go around a corner and see that the sun is shining on something and lighting it up in such a way that I say, "WOW".

Maybe that stuff only happens to me though.

I keep a point and shoot in my car all the time but only take my big rig out when I have a shoot planned.

For 12 years I carried between 2 and 4 cameras with me 24/7/365.

Afterward, outside of work hours, I only carried one if I was going somewhere I thought had possibilities.

Still later, I only carried a small Olympus XA on vacation. The rest of my non-vacation time was of no interest to me photo wise.

Today, I only use a camera when I'm working. And one of my assistant carries it/them.

I didn't mean that if you do it, you suck! I just meant beginners tend to take their cameras everywhere more than folk who have been doing it longer. You are obviously an exception!
