Do you use a polarizing filter for shooting outdoors?

I was just going through my equipment making sure I have everything I need for my upcoming trip and realized I don't have a polarizer for my Sigma 17-70 which has become my favorite lens. I always used one on my 18-105. I haven't really missed it on the Sigma but we'll be in FL and I'll be taking a lot of vacation type candids and scenery shots during (hopefully) nice sunny weather.

Wondering what the general consensus is on this question, if there is one? This is the one I'm considering: Amazon.com Hoya 72mm DMC PRO1 Digital Circular Polarizer Glass Filter Camera Lens Polarizing Filters Camera Photo

TIA for your input.

I don't know how to say this other than "if I want polarization" Sometimes I want that polarized look, sometimes I dont.

To me asking this question is like asking if there is a consensus on the exact right amount of contrast for all images.

no. But sometimes i should be.

Yes, I use a polarizing filter when shooting outdoors. The exceptions are that sometimes I do want strong reflections off of the water or some other shiny object--I like to play with reflections (so I don't want a polarizing filter to cut glare).

It's a pretty rare occasion that I want/need one. That being said, the most I used mine was when I was in Hawaii.

It all depends.

But, I normally have one with me all the time. a CPL and a ND2 or ND4 or more in case it's super bright outside or you run across a nice looking water fountain.

If you are going someplace that is always bright and sunny you should have one in your bag.

I did when I started but then I ditched the kit lens and the filter did not fit the new lens(es). I just recently got one to fit my 28-135, so I have been using it more and more when outdoors.

With storm season coming on here, I'm ready to use that CPL for clouds.

You know it!! I'm looking for my monopod before leaving for surgery........... I may have to get used to using it again!

Another surgery? I was hoping that you'd be healed up and ready to meet up at the refuge by now.

i used to, but didn't like how it dulled/flattened the images. I only use it when I really have a need to kill reflections.

I think I'm going to buy one for the Sigma, to have it on hand when/if needed, since I use that lens the majority of the time these days, especially when out and about. Any recommendations?

you can spend A LOT or a little on one.
I've bought B+W as they offer a range of products that all are high quality.
