Equipment junkies will say buy the best. The best is always good. Being a photographer today is about your "eye." Low end cameras have the ability to give you results comparable to the best. The big difference is robustness. In school hopefully you will learn to train your eye to see the picture before you fire the shutter. Don't sweat the camera so much, learn the craft. If you come to think a good shot can only come from the newest and best, you may be compensating for a lack of ability. Better lenses however give more latitude in exposure. If you want to spend some money, buy glass.
