Engagement session - tips?

The only problem is than I just can't find anyone who would agree for me to assist (did ask few photographers). I guess I have to do my best and see what happens.

Just out of curiosity, how did you ask? Googling a few local wedding photographers and emailing them... is 100% the WRONG way to do it. 99.9% of people who do that are refused... and there is a very obvious answer to that.

I can agree that emailing seems like an obviously wrong way to go about approaching a pro when looking for assistant work, but the correct way is not immediately obvious to me. One main reason people search for assistant work is to build a portfolio, so approaching a pro with a portfolio doesn't seem like a viable possibility, would you simply approach the pro in person, or how else would you go about it? I don't know if I'm just missing something, but the answer is not obvious to me.
