Essentials for the D700

Got a question. When I mount my AIs lens on in A mode, instead of reading F2.8, it will just show F1 or F2 depending on which "notch" the stop is on the scale. Is there a way I can program the camera to show the aperture size as opposed to the sequence?

I realize this guy's a (fill in the blank) for most people, but his D700 user guide is pretty good:
