Expan chain replacement

I have a 3 backdrop expan chain roller that currently has the plastic chain to roll the paper up and down. I've been looking for metal chain and can only find that manfrotto has metal chain, but will cost me $110 for 3 pieces of chain. Are there any alternatives to this?
