Few shots from my first wedding

Thought I'd share some shots of my first wedding for CC. The Bride and Groom could not afford a photographer so I said I would do it for fun. The wedding was in a backyard at 5pm so the shadows were really harsh and the backdrops were often not so scenic. I had to work hard to not include the pool and slide in many of the photos! I learned a lot and realized how important it is to be quick and comfortable making adjustments to the camera settings so that I could focus on capturing the moments. I'll share more than the typical 3-4 images for CC but feel free to just pick a few to comment on.

Well done! For what you had to work with, and under those conditions, I'd say you turned in a respectable product, and I'm sure the couple will be more than pleased. There are a few things that could be improved; both your monochromes would benefit from some more tweaking, especially the first as it's rather muddy and lacking a lot of distinct black and white. The shot of the bride on the swing is great, but I wish she'd been looking toward the camera. A flash might have helped with the harsh shadow issues, but having shot backyard weddings at bad times, I know it's tough.

Not a bad first go at all! I especially love the photo of the girl swinging, had her head been turned the other way the light would have really caught her face.

If I got married, and a friend did these pictures "for fun" I would be pretty happy. I dont think there are any "bad" pictures. Given the situation and like you said the time of day and enviroment you had, I think they will be happy.

My very,very first thought was , "How simply AWFUL--they are Denver Broncos fans! Yeeech! Who the heck else would get married in orange and blue!!!"

The photography looks okay! The lighting was summery and sweet, and you gave it a good rendering. It LOOKS LIKE summer light, which can be a challenge when shooting on digital, as opposed to a wide-latitude, lower-contrast color negative film like Kodak's VPS (showing my age here I guess). These have a very casual, direct, non-stuffy "feel" to them. I pray for them...I hope I am wrong about them being Broncos fans...if they are, they are DOOMED.

The shots look pretty good. really like the swing shot and the last shot of the tent. great job for your first go at it.

I grew up in Denver so when I saw the colors I thought to myself yikes! Wedding was in Michigan and no relation to the Broncos. I had to tone down the orange in quite a few as it was just soo bright it took all focus in the photo.

Thanks for the comments guys. I knew from the start that it was going to be a challenging shoot and feel I could do better next time but for a first go I'm satisfied. I need to get more comfortable with my strobe which I think would have helped to balance light in a lot of the shots.
