So I was rummaging through some old camera stuff and found a CIR polerizer from SLR
HOYA PL-CIR
will it work on digital camera?

Well assuming that the lens and the polarizer are of the same diameter (or as a stop gap if the lens is smaller than the polarizer using an adapter ring of proper sizing) then yes. A circular polarizer is a circular polarizer.

Is a circular polarizer.

Digital cameras need a circular polarizer for the auto focus system to work properly. Linear polarizers work on digital cameras if you manually focus the lens.

This is where my confusions come in...
is it circular polarizer if it turns?
the filter states PL CIR
it is a 55 but I have the appropriate step up...

I believe that is a circular polarizer, so it should work fine. Toss it on the camera and see what happens; worst case scenario? Your auto-focus won't auto focus.

It should work, and hoya is a decent brand.

Should work great best test is to bung it one and shoot a few. If you want a real toy put that one and a linear on together and slowly adjust them around watching carefully what happens. Nice toy.
