First ever pictures

A few days ago, i bought a canon t1i on craigslist for $100. Yesterday, i took it out for the first time. Went to a duck park near my house. Camera has kit lense, EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II. these are the results. What are your thoughts?

Welcome to TPF. It looks like you're off to a good start. One suggestion for future improvement: When you're composing the image in the viewfinder, try and avoid cropping of "little bits" such as Missus Mallard's foot in #2.

Thanks, ill keep that in mind next time im out shooting. First time with a camera that isn't a $100 point and shoot.

Well there was a reason the camera was 100. Lens stopped zooming... Yup...

Good for the first time out! It looks just like my first post! Welcome to the SLR world and TPF. Not good about your lens! The body is worth 100 tho. There are a lot of lenses for pretty cheap that can keep you going. You should be able to find a replacement / second lens.
If you stay in the hobby you will be buying lenses anyways.
Have fun with your editing but be mindful that some here are picky about how to edit. dont take it personal.
#2 is good. Well focused, Exposed correctly, Made eye contact. Don't be afraid to lay on the ground or even climb a wall or tree to get a shot either.
