Some of you probably saw my thoughts about partially switching to Canon for my birds. The 7D Mark II finally arrived today. Ripped it out of the box after work to find out the battery was dead. I only had about 2 hours til sunset, so as I opened the battery grip I realized I had some rechargeable AA in my flash. Threw them in and I was out the door. Pretty hard switching over to a different brand, the menus are so different than Nikon, I kept hitting wrong dials and buttons like crazy, lol. Anyways figured a few things off. I adjusted fine tune after the hawk as I thought I saw a little front focus. Shot with the 400 F5.6... Ran out of light... Thanks for looking and comments welcome.

1 I only had the camera in my hands for about 10 minutes for this one.

um...
these are all just as spectacular as all of your great shots from the D7000 and up.
are YOU noticing anything different about how it performs compared to the D7100?
cause...they all have looked great, regardless of what camera you have been using.

I think it is too early to tell. The AF system is way more complex, I only took about 400 clicks. It felt like maybe a millisecond slower to pick up the subject, but it seemed to track better without any nervousness in the AF. The D7100 always felt a bit twitchy to me with AF. I'm not sure if I have fine tune where I need it yet. When the hawk took off in the first picture, 4/5 were acceptably sharp. The 5th was more my fault because I was sort of expecting the hawk to go up, not down and I was very close. It will take me some time to get it all sorted out. I do like the feel of the 7dm2, it reminds me of the build quality of the D300, it feels like a tank, especially with the battery grip.

The talk on other forums is that the AF is a beast on the 7D II. But a very good beast, once you tame it.

It is very complicated, there are 7 "cases" each with 3 adjustable parameters and like 6 different types of focus patterns. It's a bit overwhelming starting out with it especially with the menu that don't seem to make as much sense as Nikons, of course I am use to nikon... I'm sure I will figure it out sooner than later, lol
