What's new

First outing with the machine gun.

Somehow, @coastalconn it appears that the theme "Fumbling towards ecstasy" seems appropriate. Only ten minutes in, trashing about the unfamiliar menus, and you still manage #1? I think you'll do fine. Even with a pinhole camera. Although THAT might cause you to work a little bit harder at getting your usual stellar shots.

These are brilliant as always. I think the tracking and focusing system is probably the best in any camera available at the moment. Looking forward to some more shots. Are you planning on getting the Tamzooka for it as well, or maybe the Siggy?

Yea I agree,If my Canon 6D can track a tiny sparrow inflight on a single central cross type focus point, I could imagine what the 7D II could do. Kris will have a mesquito in flight soon.LOL

No, He's going to crowd fund this Canon gem, 1200mm f/4. :bouncingsmileys:

Now, could you imagine the shots he would produce????

Thanks everyone!

Nice set,Looks good to me.Enjoy your new beast of a Camera.I bet the speed and buffer is just so sweet.
The speed is really quite awesome, especially catching flinches of songbirds and raptors taking flight..

Nice set of images with a new camera. Can't wait to see them when you "figure it out".
LOL, me either

Yep - it looks like you got more than a few things figured out. Nice, as usual.
Thank you!

Splendid! Congrats on the new toy; hope it's everything you thought it would be--because I am NOT giving the D800 back. :D

Your "after 10 minutes with a new camera" shot looks better than MY "after 10 WEEKS with a new camera" shots!
I think it worked out very well for both of us!

Pinhole camera, hmm, might have to try that.. Would it work with ronlane's link below?

I would buy one, but I can't afford the tank I would need to mount it to, lol..

I think for now I am sticking with the 400 F5.6. I get very impatient in the beginning and I know it takes me about a week to get things sorted out..

As far as front focus, I was right. I worked a very long 12 hour day so I only had about 45 minutes this morning, Last night I was shooting at +2, this morning I moved it to +3 and I still have some front focus. Tomorrow I will move to +4. It's how I role with my lenses. Take a bunch of shots then evaluate where I think the focus is missing. You can see the branch in front of this white fronted sparrow is sharper and the focus plane ends right at the bird.. I think once I get there it will be a very sharp lens!
