One word. Portrait.

Like Derrel said, shoot portrait/vertical, not horizontal. There are times when horizontal/landscape works, but when shooting headshots, you're best to shoot portrait. Nice edits by Derrel!

I am using the viewfinder, please let me know why you are asking this.

There is no pattern to the framing. Some subjects are centered, some are on the right, some are on the left, some high, some low, and for all the world it looks as if you are simply aiming down the barrel of the lens.

Seriously.

Some people are saying my photos look too similar and your saying they look too different. Please forgive my lack of knowledge and explain more when you say "pattern to the framing"

What I meant to "no pattern" is that they appear to be totally random in the way you frame them. No "rhyme nor reason" as it were.

My impression is that the shots were just quick snapshots, possibly without regard to how they were being framed.

May I simply suggest checking out the photographer Sue Bryce? She has helped me tremendously in my posing and camera angles for portraiture. She shoots glamour, but don't let that scare you away. I don't shoot glamour. But her tips are SO helpful!

Note how blue the top right photo is.
I guess this was an overcast day with a glare-y bright sky.
You can see how the brightness is obvious on the tops of her cheeks.

I don't think there's anything wrong with shooting headshots horizontally. A lot of headshots on the east and west coast are done horizontally while the midwest is mostly vertically, if I remember correctly, but I could also be wrong. It's also more a taste of preference to the photographer really. If you want to cover all bases, shoot some horizontally first, then shoot some vertically.

Also, watch that Peter Hurley video. It gives a TON of information. Just google him on YouTube and you will find some awesome videos to help you out and make your headshots better. If there's one thing I took from his videos that I use constantly, it's "forehead to the camera".

A good start! It's your first time, there's bound to be imperfects. Absolutely nothing wrong with that. I think the best thing to do is do lots of research on headshots. Look at tons of them, find headshot photographers you like and learn from them! Be aware of the lighting, angle, composition, expression and position the model is in. It's going to take time but you're also going to want to work on developing your own style of headshot and work on bringing out the personality of the model. That can take years though! In the mean time, just start taking lots of headshots and try not to worry about the very specific technical stuff yet that some people are telling you here. I can see where that can be overwhelming, and you don't want to be overwhelmed. Have fun!
