I once made an extensive test with more than 8.000 flash ignitions to check which batteries work best for me. I do have rather long periods when I don´t use speedlights and then I don´t want to discharge/charge them before a shooting. So it is important for me that batteries don´t loose power when they are not used. One of the batteries in the test (the most expensive one!!!) lost more than 50% capacity in 30 days!!!
After that test I bought all eneloops because I felt they were the best value for money, see the result for yourself:
A short explanation:
- I refreshed every single battery before I first used it (discharge/charge) then I checked the number of possible flash ignitions right after that first charge.
- After they cooled down, I recharged them, put them into the cupboard and waited 15 days before I did my next test with the same batteries.
- After they cooled down again, I again recharged them and waited 30 days this time. You can see the result below.
While some batteries have more power right after charging, they lose it pretty quick.
