Anybody know of one? Seems like no ones producing them

So far, no one's stepped up to the plate. I know there's cheapies listed on ebay, but I'd avoid those like the plague.

I know Kay eyez makes them, haven't checked on one for the 800, I have one in my d90 and its awesome

Have you looked at page 102 of the D800 users manual?

yes???

I can turn on audible beep and forget that green dot or focus screen, but some people still prefer focus screen. :D

I prefer a recording of my mother-in-law's voice saying:

a little more to the left
a little more to the left
NO NO TOO FAR NOOOO
a little more to the right

and so on.

My mother would be worse.

"For Gods' sake, stand up straight!
Are you sure you put film in?
Don't forget to take the lens cap off.....
Make me look good!
Is that the same camera you had in 1974?
Oh, I forgot to take my glasses of... take another one!
............."

Ad nauseum, ad infinitum.

I read this in a very hoarse, naggy, old woman voice. Am I in the ballpark?

I understand that there is a little green light, but its so hard to use, particularly in low light situations. I'm surprised to hear you suggest that. I would have assumed that a seasoned photographer as yourself would much, much prefer an actual focusing screen.

For manual focusing in macro, I much prefer a split prism... I feel it gives me much better control for precise focusing. Preferably with a coarse ground circle around it.
