I'm only seeing ONE of the original set you posted, but I'm assuming that's because you replaced them on flickr with the edits in your last post. These are really quite good for a first attempt! The first football game I shot (granted, it was with a 55-300 variable aperture lens and a D5100; not a great lowlight choice, lol!) was HORRIBLE. I caught the action fine, but they were so dark and noisy they just belonged in the bin.
You've gotten some good action here--yeah, the noise is pretty marked in some, especially the cropped images, but your option here, given your existing equipment, wasn't noise or no noise, it was get the shot, or don't get the shot. You got the shot.
I just recently took the plunge and got the Imagenomic noiseware and portraiture plugins for Photoshop. Someone who is no longer on TPF *strongly* encouraged me to get it back probably two years ago, and I've resisted all this time because it's a little on the expensive side, and I just wasn't confident it would be that much better than the built-in PS noise reduction tool. Well, I can tell you, it's well worth the money! Much, much better noise reduction than what I was getting before!
I love the action shots, but I *really* like that football shot at the end. That gives me a great idea too, but how to pull it off may take some thinking!
These really make me want to go shoot a football game! I might just have to see where my local HS is playing this week. I've got a friend whose son is on the team, so maybe I could go shoot some of him in action.
