It's a nice shot, only nitpick is in the chest area, was some editing done for a tan line ?

Here are a couple of tweaks I'd make if you shoot with her again. On the pose, I think it's stronger if she either extends her legs a bit or bends the knees even more...the current angle makes the calves look short and small visually. In other words, either make the calves more visible or make them disappear behind her thighs. Also, if she can hold she shawl on top with her right hand without forming a fist...so fingers can be partially extended, she'll have a much more flowing line and her fist won't appear quite as big. Others might find the flowers in the background distracting visually but I think it's a nice and unique touch. Not wild about the hair color but you don't really have a choice in that and as some in this thread have pointed out, it's a big positive for them. You had enough of an angle so her left hand didn't disappear completely in to the grass (thus effectively cutting it off). I think the strap off the shoulder is very effective and I love the expression. Also, given the state of her dress/undress I'd encourage you to try shooting this pose without footwear...I think it will be more effective.

Lovely image Trev ('though I'm not at all fond of the hair), Joe is spot on with his comment about her hand. The fist adds visual tension that doesn't work with the image.

Nah, to each their own. Some people take 20 minutes to compose and some shoot rapidly. The more experienced your models, the easier it is to shoot spontaneously. Or you can shoot rapidly, take breaks, and then view a couple with the model to see what's working and what isn't. But in any case, it's all good. Thanks for sharing.

I like her hair and the general pose. However some tweaks My poser (my wife) would do to enhance the model: extend her legs more (don't point appendages AT the camera) and turn her right hand so it's edge (not a fist) is towards the camera.

Her EYES are too far off camera--the eyes are VERY important in portraits! Just before I click the shutter I always check the position of the eyes and have my subject look to a point that equalizes the whites of their eyes (when they are looking off-camera) then I have them look to the camera (click).

I personally don't like the background. All those red roses take the attention away from the model. That's why I so rarely used the Rose Garden in San Jose; it also had very little shade.

And because she's so close the that background there's no way to really knock it out of focus enough to blur them out--well I guess you could do a gausian-blur on them.

So, where did you do this portrait? I've photographed just about everywhere in San Jose and the Bay Area in our 30-years in business there.
