Going from Rebel t1i To Canon 7D tomorrow

So, I've been doing photos and video for a while. I use a macbook pro with final cut express for video and free gimp software for photo. I mostly use these cameras for guitar instructional videos.

I noticed the 7d did not take a regular sd card like my other one. So I got this one Amazon.com: SanDisk Extreme - Flash memory card - 32 GB - 400x - CompactFlash: Electronics

It says it is 60/mb a second. Is that going to be okay with the 7d? Also what else do I need to know? ON my t1i I mostly record at 720 because the framerate isn't very good with 1080p I imagine this is not the case with the 7d.

I'm also looking for a good studio mic to go into my 7d. I have been syncing the audio using logic pro 9 and studio mic's.

Anything else I need to know about the upgrade? And will this card work fine?

I just made the switch from a T1i to a 7D, Unfortunately I can't speak to the video frame rate, because I dont use the camera for video, but I do know that you bought the right CF card. UDMA is ideal for video. Good luck, and Enjoy. Its one hell-of-a camera.

Card will work more than fine it should be ideal - though you can also use a 16GB card if you want a cheaper option (though if you do a lot of video at high res you might well benefit from a 32GB version rather than always having to swap cards). External audio sounds very sensible considering that the onboard audio for the 7D is nothing special (nor does it allow you to control the recording volume).

Otherwise get ready for lots of custom settings and stuff to get used to - an hour or two flicking through the manual and playing around and you should be fine with the 7D

Also since video burns the battery faster you will want a spare battery (and heck maybe consider a battery grip too) .

I appreciate the response.

I do dread learning all these settings with the T1i I didn't have to learn too much. Even though it was a DSLR it could work like a point and shoot. I did always use Program mode and not the pre settings though.

But I did allow the ISO to be auto although I do understand how that works manually.

I don't understand the "F11" and the different F's at the top though.

Also does the lens this comes with perform well? If not, what should I get? I will be doing photos also it's just my main use is video.

These are two videos I did with my rebel t1i if you guys are interested. I will be doing one with the 7D when the UPS guy brings it today.

Watch the first video if you wanna get an idea of how I sync the audio with it. THe second one is just me showing off my guitars so I just put a song over it in imovie.

So, since that new kinda card is going in the 7d that won't fit in my SD slot in my macbook like the t1i would right? Does this mean I have to plug in the camera via usb to get the photos/videos off of it?

Nice guitars.......and you can either plug the camera in via USB, or go buy a USB Compact-Flash card reader. Both work, personally I think the card reader is a little less of a hassle. What kind of card did you get with the camera, UDMA I hope, especially if the main function will be video. And the kit lense (im assuming its the 28-135 IS USM) is more than decent, and a BIG upgrade from the 18-55 that came with your T1i. My only complaint when I first switched was the weight difference, but now its just normal.....good luck!

Yes that is the lens I got. I'm still waiting for the ups man to get here!
