Got to get a nice Leica lens now, i have at the moment VC 28mmF2 Ultron and VC 40mmF1.4 Nokton and a free Jupiter 12 35mmF2.8 all nice, Noctilux would be nice but i would have to sell a motorbike and that is not going to happen' got my eye on the new VC 50F1.5 m mount based on the old 1950's lens no price yet

I have the Modern 50/1.5 Nokton in LTM, picked up for under $400. It is sharp, depending on the price of the new lens- you might keep an eye open for someone "upgrading". The down-side, close-focus is only 0.9m.

The new Nokton: optics are supposed to be the same as the modern Aspherical 50/1.5 Nokton, the mount is fashioned after the 1950s Nokton.

I can't believe the old 50F1.5 off the prominent are going on ebay for £2500, is the screw mount good ?

The optics are the same as the Prominent 50/1.5 Nokton. I have two of those, one bought on a Prominent I in a thrift store for $50, the other on a Prominent "1 and a half" for $350. I have the Prominent to S-Mount adapter as well. They are on par with a Canon 50/1.4. There is a "myth" about them that they are the best "50 of the 1950s". Better than a Summarit. The Summarit was optimized for F2.8. I modified my Summarit, moved the rear segment 0.2mm closer to the image plane, it is now optimized for F1.5 across the full focus range.

The other "Myth" lens is the 5cm F1.5 Simlar. The Simlar- Not worth the going rate in terms of image quality, but interesting because it is a unique Japanese design- a Planar formula lens with a triplet, 1-3-2-1. Some claim it is a "half Sonnar". They are wrong. Mine required a full rebuild. The $50 Prominent with Nokton did as well.

Vintage 1950s 50/1.4- the Canon is hard to beat, but goes for the price of the modern Nokton in LTM. The vintage Nokton- not as good.

I'm a Sonnar fanatic. This is with a 1950s Zeiss Opton 50/1.5, wide-open on a modified Nikon S2. I moved the helical out and calibrated the RF for the Zeiss standard. The modern C-Sonnar is worth looking at, depending on the price of the new Nokton... I'm not helping, am i...

I use a Canon 50 1.4 on my M6.. it's ok. Not as awesome as i'd like, but Summilux is just too far out of my budget. I've been thinking about saving for a Summicron, but I like the extra f/stop that i'd be missing with that F2 lens. I also have a screwmount Leica collapsible Summitar that I use on my IIIf.. (it was cheap, 300 bucks) I haven't really used it much on the M6.. I should..

No, how about the Canon f1.2

Soft wide-open, "super-dreamy Bokeh", low-contrast. These lenses used to be ~$250 for a good one. At prices that they are going for today: get the 50/1.1 Nokton. I will post some pictures later today. I sold both that I owned, still have the 50/0.95 on the Canon 7. Those used to be cheap, too. Mine was $200.

Maybe we could start a "50mm lens thread" in the mirrorless section. I have a lot of 50mm lenses, most bought before the M8 was introduced.
