Can others edit my Photos
Photos NOT OK to edit

I'm not sure I totally understand the forum policy on firearm related discussions... Was that thread locked merely because the topic was related to firearms, or was it something specific in a post or a link?

I guess what I'm asking is, are all firearm related posts (regardless of the content/context) taboo, or was there something else that prompted the lock?

edit
I was under the impression that it was OK as long as it stayed civilized. Has that changed? ...Because I didn't really see anything in that (very short) thread that seemed uncivilized.

Freedom of speech is slowly being taken away everywhere in America or maybe each MOD has different opinions on what should be locked or not. One MOD might say hey no gun talk here at all while another might let it roll so as long as it stays civil. Unless they talk to each other and make such a decision together.

Six months ago I doubt that anyone would have noticed but right now it's a volatile topic that is probably best avoided on a non-firearms forum. Under the circumstances I guess I can understand yet a more valid reason for locking the thread would have been useful since, in this particular instance, the emphasis was more on the accident than firearms.

I would have to agree with Scott about the volatility of the subject. I live in NY and am really passionate about this topic and disgusted by my state. I shall however digress. I left Facebook due to this topic and don't want to leave my only other online social network place which I enjoy(TPF).

In NY it's no more than 7 rounds. Even for the police. Which believe it or not I'm friends with many of the officers in my town and they are abbiding by the law.

I left another photography forum last month for this reason. One member started whining about "When is someone going to do something about all these GUNS!" and I turned loose.

It is a passionate subject and one that both sides feel very strongly about, either pro or con. And one that is probably best discussed elsewhere since they always quickly degenerate into something less amicable than just discussion. Again, I think that there was some overreaction to Sparky's post since it was more about the accident than guns, however on a photography forum I think it was also the prudent route as well. Also, as I mentioned, I would have expected a more rational reason for locking the thread than the one that was posted.

I did not see the other thread. I have noticed on here anytime a gun type thing is put up people do get bent. I actually had a couple gun related photos i wanted to put up that i wanted to recreate out of a photography magazine but, I dont want to start any BS here. They were kind of fun shots to try too. :/ IMO its a shame folks can't remain civil. I have always been of the school of thought that things can be reasonably talked out. I don't agree with he who yells loudest is right. I like to fancy myself a logical thinker and so therefore try to "argue" my points logically.

Found the post. IMO that was an overreaction to the thread but, that's subjective.
On a side note, that story's kind of funny in a "you're a dolt" kind of way.

I swear there's something in the Ts and Cs about guns specifically, but I can't find it.

Politics, other than specifically photography-related, is right out. It's there in the FAQ. If you want to argue politics, there's plenty of other places on the internet to do it. This is a photography forum, not a politics forum.

Gun discussions tend to turn into political discussions almost immediately.

My advice is to talk mostly about photography on thephotoforum.com and keep the gun talk to gun forums.

I know, I'm from Fulton and Ovid (between Seneca Falls and Ithaca)
Oh! Nice! I built he energy plant in Seneca Falls, and the one in Geneva.

Nice, my parents owned a campground on Cayuga lake and have since retired.

Yay, a gun thread!!

I was just at Watkins Glen this past fall. It is such a beautiful area. The fall foliage was at peak and it was incredible. Had some good wine too.

Josh; did the discussion turn to something about politics? Or was the topic more about guns than photography of guns?

FWIW: I would like to see some examples of good firearm photographs.

Lets see if an "assault" rifle can pick up a camera. Knowing them, it would probably look something like what a paparazzi would do.
