Help with creativety

Hi guys, i could really use some help here. I have a portfolio to do consisting of 20 images. Needless to say, I lack the creative gene. lol so here is my plan. Because I'm in the military, i wanted to do something depicting our female soldiers (titled "heroes"). which brings us to my conflict. there are so many pictures out there already of soldiers, so how do i make my pictures stand out? what angles would some of you suggest? I live in the DC area and was thinking about shooting around the monuments. I am really looking forward to hear some of your suggestions. any comments, thoughts, or ideas are welcomed. thanks!

Spend a day at the tomb of the unknown soldier...that should inspire some shots. Try the Vietnam Veterans memorial too. It's hard to tell you how to become creative. But you have to get into the feeling of it, take yourself to the place in you where something moves you and speaks strongly to you. Do you ever see things and wish you had your camera? That's your creativity talking to you. Listen to it.

What's the depth of your knowledge of the theories of composition and elements of design?

What I like to do when I don't know how I want to shoot something or someone is try to imagine a photograph or illustration/drawing of the subject/topic that is over the top. I accentuate focal lengths, lighting, poses, anything. Then, I think of how I could recreate that using my camera and light.
