Horse riding!

As per title,

My GF is horse riding with a few jumps and wants me to take some photos....
what kind of settings would I need for a winters morning outside?

What kind of camera, what kind of lens... there are no magic settings that one can predict. We have no idea whether it will be bright, raining... all of these play a part. My suggestion would be to put the camera into shutter-priority mode, set a shutter-speed of 1/250 (or as high as you can go) and shoot away.

When I was in Britain we did not see the sun from November until March - always overcast or drizzle or pissing it down. Got tired of it and moved to Canada with my bride.

As for the op's question, without more information as to camera and lenses available here are a couple of suggestions.

DX: 17-55 and flash for winner's circle and 70-200 VR1 for everything else.

FX: 24-70 and flash for winner's circle and either of the 70-200's for everything else.

But tbf is is overcast and there's been a light snow overnight.

ive only just started photography as a hobby, hence the dense question. I have a Nikon d40 with the kit lens....
