I lost that little piece that goes on your hotshoe when the flash isn't on it. Do I need to replace it? Can you damage a hotshoe???

That's one of the first things that gets tossed in the "miscellaneous" box when I get a new body. I never use it and I've never had a problem.

You can get the Nikon BS-1 for $4.95 or the new 3rd party BS-1 knockoff for $2.95.

I never lost mine, because they immediately came off and got left in the box the camera came in, so I never used it.
