How to find out number of pictures taken by D90

As the title says really.
Looking to find out the number of images taken by my D90 and not sure which software to use or whether the camera can tell me.
Looking on the internet, there seems to be a plethora of software purporting to do it, but wondered if anyone can recommend a way to go.

I've never heard of an image with full exif not having the shutter count. No matter what the brand.

Canon bodies does not save the shutter count in its photos and requires special software to read it from the body. With some bodies only a trip to Canon can give an accurate number.

I've put Magic Lantern on my T1i (and the same software also works on the majority, if not all, of the EOS line), and one of the informational windows show the actual shutter actuation count, and the number of times I've used LiveView. The Magic Lantern website has a lot of scary verbiage about how it may KILL your camera, but I think that's there partly for legal liability reasons (it's effectively alpha/beta software), and partly to keep the newbs away. There is a process to follow and it works. It does not change the camera's firmware, but boots off a prepared SD card, and coexists with the Canon firmware. David, the software really allows you to customize your camera to an extent just not possible otherwise. While much of it is focused on helping the video side, there are plenty of goodies for the still photographer, especially if you use live-view. The documentation that you can download does tell you what you can do, but doesn't tell you why this feature or that is useful - that's where your own experimentation has to come in. If that kind of stuff doesn't faze you, then dive in - the water's warm, and there are no sharks/alligators/snakes lurking, at least in my own experience. On the plus side, I've got much better control over the shooting experience when I'm using the live-view mode (which I tend to use a lot to set up my shot when it's on the tripod, partly to scan for bits that don't belong, partly for the control over focus and DOF that I want).

I downloaded the Magic Lantern software and the latest firmware for my camera. Going to wait till after the airshow today before installing just in case something goes wrong.

It's my understanding, not all Nikon DSLRs record the shutter count in the EXIF data.
Only those Nikon DSLRs launched since 2007 or so - do.

I just ran images though the counter from my old Canon 1D and it had a count of 187,000, I ran the same on my 1D mkll and it had 157,000(this is the second shutter) I'm not sure how accurate it is though. The 1D is 12 years old and it should have been well over 250,000. I have another 1D in a box somewhere, I'll fire a couple of frames through it and see.

Accuracy is an unknown with both the web site and the Magic Lantern software.

Reading the shutter count in Nikon's EXIF, MakerNote section leaves no room to doubt the accuracy.
