how to get snows "texture" in a shot

here is a photo that i shot of a flower thingy pokeing through the snow, i realize the sdof i used wouldnt have showed the textures but for future refrence.

any help?

also bc of my SDOF how can i fix the background so that when i print it out in a large format like 18x24 the white wont pixelate?

Photographing texture is all about light. Well, photographing anything is all about light, but when you want to capture texture, you need directional light that creates highlights and shadows from the angle that the camera sees.

Here is a shot I got a couple weeks ago. The sun was low in the sky, giving me nice directional light.

As for your shallow depth of field...that should not cause pixelization. I would think that out of focus areas would be easier to enlarge than the detail areas.
