What's new

I am new here with some photos for C&C

You know what else ruins it for me...the slobber on his sleeve.

KmH, thanks for that link to the lessons on flash. That is a tremendous resource, very well written and easy to understand. I love this forum--I'm learning more every day from people on here!!!

I agree with Keith that the flash doesn't really "ruin" the picture... there's just not enough other light in the picture so the rest of it is too dark. Either find a good setting to have him in so that you can light it a little better and have it come out the way you want, or try and set it up so you can shoot a baby on a black backdrop, which will require more than one flash. Good attempts though; get a diffuser for that flash so you don't have to worry about using it up close and personal... Keep playing with the lighting, you'll never take too many pictures of that baby :)

I was not actually that close to him. I cropped most of the pics down a lot. This was my first chance other than a set of Photos taken when he was about 4 weeks old. All I have is my camera and nothing else fancy to use. I would have done outside but it was to cold. I did not want to make an argument :(. I will try again and see if i can do better. And to those that thought my baby was cute THANK YOU!!!!

Would an external flash that is attached to the top of the camera be better?

This would be preferable to what you have here provided there's a swivel head and you bounce the flash so that it's not firing directly in his face.

And to those that thought my baby was cute THANK YOU!!!!
Sorry and don't want to burst your bubble, but the viewers here are emotionally detached. For certain, there are those with newborns and have a kindred spirit, but for the most part we are evaluating your images on their own merit. To improve upon your images, I suggest you discern the accolades from the constructive critiques.

All I want to do is improve.

Hey! If you can't trust the FM, what can you trust?

:er:

I had a pediatrician in one of my classes a couple years ago. Can you trust a pediatrician?

This came up in class and this is what he said: We don't have proof that direct flash is harmful to infant's eyes. However, we also don't have proof that it isn't harmful. The question is legit and some experts believe there is reason for concern and study. If it was my baby I'd throw the benefit of the doubt to my baby and wait 6 months before flashing him/her.
