I have Photoshop elements and Lightroom.

I wanted to darken the background, her dress and her skin - just not all the same amounts.

:duplicated the original
:selected the subject, her dress and the floor and moved it to a separate layer.
:darkened the copy of the original
:On the new layer made of subject and dress, used a curves layer to lowered the exposure on the skin and increase the saturation a bit.
:selected the dress to a new layer, used a curves layer to lower brightness, increase saturation and separate the middle tones
:did local area contrast enhancement on the dress only (unsharp mask with radius 15, threshhold 0, amount to taste) to give texture to the dress.
:Merged everything to a new layer.

Here's another picture that is similar to the last one, but I shot it lower. I used LR to edit it. I've been playing around in LR more than I have PSE.
