I made a huge mistake...

I played with a Canon 6D today. I'm screwed come tax time this year...

No mistake just a simple evolution, when you are tired of your old crop sensor camera and get to play with a new camera especially if its a full frame then its natural to want to upgrade to it.
Christmas time is the perfect time to get a good deal on the 6D.
I have to admit while I adore the 6D me personally I would go for the Nikon D610

D'uhhh... of course! There's low-income housing and food banks out there, but no one gives away free cameras!

Actually... my Olympus E-450 was free, technically. I traded a pair of sunglasses for which I'd paid $40 for $40 and a broken Oly, then sent it in to find out a defect in a board killed it and they fixed it for free, so ipso facto, I got a free DSLR. Now, how to score me a 6D for free.......... or cheap.

Goodguy hit it on the head. There's some MASSIVE limitations with my E-450-basically if it focuses, it takes forever unless you're in direct sunlight, it has 3 phase-detect focus points, it's tiny so "REAL" DSLR owners laugh at me (no, really, I had this happen-some guy with a gripped 5D mk II), the sensor is freaking miniscule... I think I've outgrown it already. As I was saying, come tax time...

I did play with a D610, and it's a fine piece of equipment, but it didn't speak to me the way the Canon did. The Canon just WORKED for me. I can't explain it, but there's a time when you just know something is right, and that was one of them.

That's what got me into this mess in the first place-my inlaws need a still camera that captures good video (well, the best a primarily still camera can), so I found them a Sony superzoom that's great for technologically inept people to use. Then I swore I wouldn't look at DSLRs.... and I looked at DSLRs. As for Best Buy, I would have gone to a real camera shop instead had they been open yesterday.

I was happy with my d7000, until someone handed me their d700 to hold on to for a bit.
Great ... a nice FF camera. Wish he hadn't done that.

But I'm still convincing myself not to get a FF .. it's hard though, except for not spending the money.

Nothing wrong with the 6D, its an awesome camera, in low light its a beast!!!
Of course you need to know that once you get the camera you will need to buy proper lenses, getting crappy cheap lenses and mounting on the good body of the 6D will not really let the camera shine so get some good glass too, yes it will cost you but in the long run you will be happy you got it.
Since I am a Nikon boy I cant really recommend you what lenses to get but I am sure there are lots of good people here that will be able to help you with that.
