What's new

I need advice before this Saturday

Hey, i never said it was worth doing or even worked properly, but I do remember seeing some Gary Dung thing that went over your popup to diffuse it, so hey, if Dung does it, anything is possible.

"Gary Dung". Hah hah hah!!

Good one, big guy!!!

Maternity photos: look at Flickr for ideas if you need to.

We still haven't established that the OP actually has a flash...

His name is Fong. It's called a LightSphere.

I know :sexywink:
I consider his stuff over marketed crap that easily sucks in people who dont know better.
Does it work? Sure. I'm just not a fan

What good is a softbox, and a diffuser if you don't have a flash?

Are you going to position your softbox on a light stand 92,000,000 miles above the earth and hope that it will counteract some of that harsh afternoon sunlight?

You DON'T have to be so rude about it! YES I have a flash! I just for got to add that to the list.

Maybe they are these things that you can put on your popup flash..?

I have a maternity shoot today, my first one as well. Friend asked if I could, i said yes because she is a sweetheart, so off I go!

Good luck to you!

Thanks I look forward to hear about it and how you did thing. I also look forward to see pictures!

'Twas just a joke. But since your panties are all up in a bunch I figured I'd bring you this so you can get some of the pent up emotion out.

Well, honestly. The flash is one of the more important pieces of your gear, and not something that should be forgotten about.

Tyler- Sorry that I didn't take that as a joke, it was a rough day today. And then to get on here and read that I took it all wrong. Sorry. And yes I agree about the flash it is important and I indeed have it :)

Are they're gonna be any posting of the pictures

You don't need any other equipment. Take your camera, a lens, and shoot in manual mode (you do know how to shoot in manual mode, right? You know how to work your aperture, shutter, and iso, right?)

Turn your on camera flash off.

Master natural lighting near a window and outdoors, before you invest in anything else. Maternity and newborn shoots can be done very well with simple window light. After you have mastered your natural light, then bring in the softbox - and treat the softbox like you treated the window.

The fact that you are listing your equipment or asking for tips to make your photos look better, leads me to believe that you may not know how to work your camera on manual and know how to manipulate light. Correct me if I am wrong.

Everything on my website, I could shoot with any camera, natural light or with a soft box (although both my natural lighting and softbox work can be interchanged and shot with either), depending on the image. It's all about knowing how to work a camera and whatever lighting is there, not necessarily investing in more equipment or magic buttons.

:) I'm happy with the images, but there are tons of things I'd change with them. But hey, first time, right?

Thank you for your advice! I am still learning my camera and my manual mode. But you are totally right, if I would or anybody for that fact new how to use the camera right and use the lighting you have then you don't have to buy all that expensive equipment! I never realized that until I read what you told me. Thank you! :)
