Ideal set up

If money was no object what body, five lenses and flashes etc would you have??

That's a super broad question lol. I'd be happy with a d800( have no use for a d4) 14-24 2.8, 135 dc 2 , 24-70 2.8, 70-200 2.8 vr ii, 400 2.8, a few sb910's, good wireless set up ( pw or pk), and a nice speedotron pack and head system w/ assorted modifiers.

Only 5 lenses - but but that's so few - I could fill that with just macro lenses alone!!

But if you were to force me I'd say:
Body - Canon 1DMIV - top of the range with a 1.3 crop for a little more reach on lenses for long distance work.

Lenses:
Canon MPE 65mm macro
Canon 70-200mm f2.8 IS L MII
Canon 300mm f2.8 IS L MII
Canon 500mm f4 L MII (though that is a rough guess - the 400mm f2.8 or the 600mm f5.6 could also be possible choices)
Sigma 150mm f2.8 OS macro

And Canon 24-105mm f4 IS L - yeah that's 6 lenses so it breaks the rule of 5, but, eh, I need something shorter than 70mm!!
(Oh and 1.4 and 2* teleconverters of course - but they don't count as lenses)
(and some microscope optics - but they don't count as lenses either)
(and some close up lens attachments by Raynox)

Flashes - this - this could get complicated if I haven't got a budget. Honestly though I'd probably settle for a couple of 600EX flashes; the canon twinflash; then a few strobe units, ideally one of those mini strobe setups with the tiny flash heads and portable battery for mobility.
Add to that stands, arms, booms, reflectors, diffusers and all other manner of important flash addons - oh and better beamers!

Yeah this isn't a cheap hobby!

I guess it will always depend on what you want to shoot.

For my ideal setup there is no body available that can do what I want. I want 9 shot 32bit HDR bracketing in camera with 100 megapixels (I dont need it but just so I can say "mine is bigger") and at least 30 fps continuous shooting with absolutely silent shutter sound.

As far as lenses go, I'd say something like nikons 14-24 f/2.8 and then canon's 24-70 II f/2.8, 70-200 II f/2.8, 65 mm mp-e and a 200-400 L.

Actually ideally, I don't want 5 lenses. I want 1 or 2 at most, that can do all that with the same optical quality. 14-70 f/2.8L and 70-400 f/2.8 macro LOL

Hmmmm...
Nikon D3x, 200-400 VR, 14-24 AF-S, 70-200 VR-II, 200/2 VR-II, 105 AF-D Defocus Control Nikkor, SB-910 flash (five units).

Canon would be the new 5D Mark III, 70-200 Mark II, 85mm 1.2-L, Sigma 150 OS Macro, 16-35-L, 45mm Tilt-****, 580 EL-II flash (five units).

Leica would be the S2 medium format and five awesome lenses and a Profoto flash system.

No desire for the D4 or 1DX?

No, no desire for the D4...MP count is too low, and frankly, I do NOT LIKE the new autofocus system's inputs, either on the left side of the lens mount, nor the ones on the back of the camera....ergonomically, the D4 is a big,big break from the previous three "pro Nikons" I have shot with since 2001...I actually do NOT like the focusing system controls on the D4--at ALL. I think they effed it all up, to put it mildly...I would rather have the D3x than the D4. I would rather have a D3s than a D4.

The Canon 1DX....the camera is in its third postponement....some day it will actually ship....MAYBE before the Summer Olympics are over...same story...MP count is low-ish by the new ridiculous high MP count era we've moved into, and frankly, the 5D-III offers a fantastic half-height camera AND a gripped incarnation, and is more what I would want in a Canon. I have not yet seen a Canon 1DX...I do not think any have shipped. Maybe I would like the fit and feel of it if I were to be able to demo one. I duuno....the 5D-III is an ergonomic masterpiece. It's frickin' sweet!!! Canon has finally moved the DOF preview and the FUNC button to Nikon's right-hand side position, making the ergonomics feel great!
