Ideas for photographing my father

I wasn't really sure where to post this but my dads back in the dating game at 60yo. He is on Match.com and he needs some photos. I did a few already (slacks/button up) but he's looking for some more casual type photos in a shirt and jeans. I have no idea what kind of photos go on a dating website or really how to pose an older gentleman.

I would love some advice and examples if you can.

One thing to really focus on is lighting. If you light an older person just right, the light will sort of "fill in" the wrinkles, and then you don't have to do much post processing. You definitely don't want to be doing much post processing, because the "plastic" look is a dead giveaway and will make people think he probably looks worse than he actually does in order to merit so much editing. Pleasing catchlights are also important, because having that "twinkle" in his eyes will make him look friendly and approachable.

I would also try to make him look as tall as possible. I'm not saying it's right, but being tall is a huge advantage on dating sites. Make sure that the camera isn't higher than eye level, but if it's lower than eye level, make sure you're not looking up his nose.

As a certified old person I would say don't worry so much about looks but show what he likes to do and what he can do. If he's very active then show him doing sports and if he likes to dance show him doing that.

If it was me I would do a headshot but I think it's important that he makes the decision and then your job will be lighting and getting a pose to work. Once he decides I would research that type of pose. The pose should make him look like it's his natural expression. This actually sounds like a fun project. Hope you enjoy it.
