Funny. The thing is, it works extremely well...
I bought my wife this point and shoot so she could take picture of our daughter all the time and while using the "kids" mode. my wife discovered that the front panel play some cartoons and funny sounds. My daughters loves it and smile and stare everytime!

at 79$ for the bracket, no thanks.

Doesn't surprise me. We're in a society where it is common place to distract children or get children to behave in a manner we deem acceptable (by adult standards not childrens') by placing technology in front of them. My friends very often will hand their kids their iphones or ipads to keep them quiet and can't believe that I would rather take my child out to the car for a three minute time out instead. Personally, I think we are way too reliant on technology when it comes to our children in general.

Children are like learning machine super-sponges, and need near constant input that is stimulating and fresh to feed their curiosity about the world around them, and to acclimate them to that world.

I see this device as a good tool, though I'll just DIY my own arm to hold my smart phone, or use the tablet setup I'm already working with to get their attention and happy faces.

Reminds me of the paparazzi trick used so often at red carpet events: BRIGHT red, yellow, or orange tape liberally stuck on the camera body and lens hood, to draw the eyes of celebs when there are 10-15-20 guys all in a pack shooting from behind the rope...

For kids today, you have to let them have access to the latest technology so they are comfortable with it or they will be at a disadvantage.

As for this item, why not use it? If you are a portrait photographer and do a ton of kids, why not use something that will make your job easier? At least with regards to where their eyes are fixed. That makes one of the variables a somewhat constant.

Not 20 minutes ago, I just shot my family X-mas picture. Two girls at 19 months, boy at 4 years, puppy etc. Getting them all looking in one direction (hopefully at the camera) was a monumental task. I love the idea of that product, I often use my iPhone to distract my girls when they are loosing control. I don't like the $75 price tag but if I shot kids more often, I'd buy it in a second. (or look for something cheaper).
