Can others edit my Photos
Photos OK to edit
I've shot a roll or two just seeing how the camera worked and if it worked. This is the first roll of film I've ever shot seriously and on a more important note the first photos I've ever taken that wasen't christmas or something I was selling.

There are a ton of issues like exposure, rules I likely broke, very bland/dull (not that this area isn't) and they were also these were only scanned at 600dpi, I'm planning to buy a new scanner soon.

I tried to edit a few on the computer, but all I did to most was crop them because of some white edges the scanner left.

All I want to know is what are some very basic things I can do when I take some more photos to improve? Please be honest but not to harsh, I'm very, very new to this.

Welcome to the forums!

I browsed through your flickr link, and some of them have some promise. People hate to hear it, but I always suggest "Understanding Exposure" by Bryan Peterson. Seeing a picture with his explanation of how he took it is how I learned a lot.

I can't comment on what you can do specifically with film. I shoot digital, and haven't used film in over 10 years.

Your focus looks nice and sharp. A lot of good composition too. I like the red fire box with the lamp over it. One thing I really like about that one is the blurry background. I would open the aperture up to a smaller f number for a shot like that. In other words, having an uninteresting background. That will blur the background even more. I'm assuming you have more aperture to play with.

About posting, Maybe you could pick a few of your favorites and actually post the picture. Number the pictures when you post them and folks might make specific helpful comments.

Have fun. I wish I wasn't lazy to use my film cameras.

Hi Doc,

You're seeing some ok stuff and seem to be using the camera well enough. Got to talk about that scanner and your editing options. Give us the details; make and model on everything including camera. Did you scan film or prints? If prints how were they made? If film, what film? What do you have on the computer available to edit the scans?

Take Care,
Joe
