What's new

I'm old.

OMG

I think I'm older than all of you.
No surgeries and tons of sports when young
I'm getting back into sports big time this year ... I think . unless I die of a heart attack.

In my training plan, #1 is "do not die of a heart attack".
So all my plans are slow increases based on heart rate monitoring.
I'm serious ....

but so far everything is going great !!

Before knee replacement he got an injection that 'replaces' the cartledge for a short term fix. It did help him for a while, year-18 months of pain relief.
Hyaluronic acid was the name, maybe ask about it.

Last night, I pasted a gorn into a vacation photo.
Awesome.
Truly awesome.

Not knowing the term, I looked it up at the Urban Dictionary, and found a lot of definitions. But none that I can see be pasted into a vacation photo. Unless it's the Gorn that Kirk battled with. Enlighten me. Or at least shine a light into my deep pit of ignorance.

It's the Gorn that "battled" Kirk. 'Tis here:

Gotcha. Will I date myself if I told you I watched that episode when it first aired? Can't believe that I forgot what a Gorn was. On the other hand, the Tribbles have left a lasting impression.

uh lets see, i am 39, had a stroke last year. Not my first one, but enough to bring me to my knees for a bit. Now been out of work for near a year and the doc wont sign a release for me to return. Basically, they are telling me i am "early retired" and i need to accept the extent of my condition and risk. Gave me some sort of advocate and started the process to put me on ssdi. which i think i will just ignore them and if i cant find someone to hire me because i cant get medically cleared just go back to working for myself. Done at 39, no way. i am too young for that. while i am enjoying the time hanging out taking photos i dont think i can spend my life eating cheetos

I've had lots of injections of all sorts of stuff in my knee. The longest it ever provided any relief was maybe 2 weeks, the Dr said it should have lasted about 3-6 months.

Sorry to hear about the surgery and good luck with it.

Here's a test for getting old (I passed this a while ago, being 61). You find a coin in change and it looks old enough that it might be valuable, so you look at the date and then realize it was minted in a year when you were an adult.

Depends on the sports. I did tons of snowboarding and bmx. So lots or hard landings and falling. I am a big dude son there was a lot of weight coming down on my joints when landing. I also royally screwed up my back and haven't been the same since.

It was worth it but I now realize why all action sport starts are all little guys. less mass and lower centers of gravity.

also if you notice, they have expiration dates. Figure the years in the game are limited. So they may make great money, but know they only have a few real years of getting a high dollar contract. Have you tried using a inverse bench to help the back? i had been a real fan of a inverse bench, have one in the corner. Cant go on it now of course as everything starts spinning (spacial issue) but until last year it was a good friend of mine.

When was the defining moment when you realied you were old?
It happened again today. In just a few short hours, I'll be 57.
Too many aches, pains and surgeries to mention. Just this past weekend, it took three days for my knees to calm down after a night of dancing.

38. LOL. 38 ain't old, surgeries or no surgeries.

I'm older than all but about 3 of the people that have posted here, so far. I'm 53--and much, to my surprise, I have NOT had knee replacement surgery.
I played keeper in soccer for the better part of two decades; did all sorts of damage to the knees and finally had to quit after the Dr. pretty much said, "quit or have surgery in the near future." That was over 20 years ago, and my knees are still taking me where I want to go. Mostly. Oh, they ache. Actually HURT from time to time. Five miles is pretty much my maximum hiking limit. And I have basically no cartilage under the knee caps, so I can't get down and kneel on them with *intense* pain.
But they are MY knees, the ones I was born with, and I'll keep 'em till I just can't use 'em anymore.

Generally, SOMETHING makes me feel incredibly old several times a week.

The first moment I really *remember* feeling old was when my kids were younger, much younger, and I had gotten up and gotten dressed and caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror and realized I looked EXACTLY like my mother. And remembered how OLD I thought SHE was when she looked like that. :D

The day that I absolutely Could. Not. think of the word for those metal cover things that go on your tires (you know, hubcaps). I actually spent about THREE days trying to trick my brain into coming up with the word--and refused to try to find it via online search just out of principle. But that was after my dad had been diagnosed with Alzheimer's and Parkinson's, so it WAS a little disconcerting.
