Install RAW Software on a Hard Drive?

Does anyone know a way to install DPP or similar onto a portable hard drive so I can use it on any computer without having to install it on each one? I have done this with other programs but cant figure out how to do it with DPP.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

If you are talking about Windows based environment, the answer is no.

Installation of a software in Windows environment usually require modifying the system registry and copying library files to system directory.

Thanks for replying. Yeah I use windows. Some programs allow you to select the folder you wish to install to but DPP doesn't seem to do this.

Is there any other way I could take RAW processing software about with me?

Even if a software let you install to a directory you specify, they usually need to update the system registry and put some library or dll files to the Windows System directory. Most of the applications cannot just plug and go. (Of course, some small utilities can)

I do not think there is a good way to do. Maybe you can have a virtual machine available online with DDP installed so you can access it anywhere as long as you have internet connection. But you need to transfer the RAW files to the VM and it may take times.

Well, if you are brave, here is an easy solution.

Make your portable drive bootable, and install any flavor linux on it, and run GIMP. The boot is not permanent and doesn't hurt the resident OS.

UFRAW doesn't mess with registry and will run from any directory you wan.

Why so complicated? Just install GIMP and UFRAW on the removable harddrive. No Linux required. There's windows versions for both.
