Some of the local damage we had in VT from yesterday storm [Irene]. Most people saying it is the worst storm they have ever seen in this area, sure is the worst i have seen. There's a lot more damage than this which I hope I can grab pics of but the police have pretty much locked down major road damage. Some roads have completely washed away. People who live on the ski mountain (Killington) are still trapped up there, mostly safe but they can't get into any towns for supplies.

These are also the day after when most water has alredy drained away.

BTW, my skills are weak lol. Just figured I would share.

The swirl is a drainage ditch taken at 1/3" if that gives an idea of force. From in front of my house, a road that completely turned into a river due to a very small stream that runs near it.

All are good but I like the third the most as it really tells a story.

I should also ask if every one was OK?

Cool shots and looks like a bit of water damage getting done.
Amazing how we as photographers love how mother nature poses for us when we shoot. Then things like this happen and realize it has an ugly side as well. Hopefully all learn from it and prepare for the next one.

Shoot well and thanks for sharing , Joe

From what I have heard there were 3 reported deaths in the area. It is horrible to say but it is really fortunate, a lot of disasters come with a lot higher count than that. Vermont doesn't see stuff like this so people do dumb things and are not prepared. 1 reported was a girl standing watching a raging river and fell in. The other 2 were a father and son who worked for a water plant. They were surveying the area and the ground gave out below them. 60 person manhunt found them in a reseviour. It's hard to know what to believe though, its the everyone knows everyonw type of area and there are a lot of rumors going around.

I love how #4 actually looks like a hurricane...creepy lol. I live in MA- still no power! Hope all is well in VT...

I was just watching the news about what happened to the southern part of the state. These pictures are amazing but they don't show how bad it really is. I am shocked by the damage done by a hurricane to our landlocked state. Towns are completely isolated from the world. In one spot prior are making ziplines to bring food to people stranded. Roads are destroyed and a bunch of our historic covered bridges are gone. One towns postmaster is hiking 8 miles a day to deliver outgoing mail - that is dedication! 260 roads are destroyed! Some highways are cut right in half! This is insane. We Vermonters are uses to feet of snow on ice but this - is something we are not used to! My heart goes out to everyone affected by Irene!

I just talked to family in central VT who tells me the roads got washed out and nearly the house too.

I just watched (on the news) a house get washed away and stuck under a bridge....then it took the bridge/road out AND another house!! I'm in shock! I am so thankful that it missed my area in northern VT. I feel horrible for saying that but....Its true.

there's nothing wrong with being thankful.

I used to ski Killington, it's about an hour from my old home if I recall correctly.

Did you live in VT? or NH?

I grew up and went to high school in Vershire/Thetford VT. Well between there and the Caribbean ;)

I tried getting to the washed out "highways" (Rt4 and 7) today but there is yellow tape and cops everywhere so I don't even dare to go near it. May try again tomorrow, maybe take some snipe shots from the woods if I can.

You guys got it so much worse down south, so sad. The only evidence I can see near me is that the Winooski river is raging, but we've had very little damage around Burlington.

Hope everyone down there is doing alright.
