He used a 400mm (don't know which one for sure since exif doesn't show it) but most likely this one Amazon.com: Canon EF 400mm f/2.8L IS USM II Super Telephoto Lens for Canon EOS SLR Cameras: Camera & Photo since there are not many 400mm 2.8's out there...
