I've noticed that trend. Any time I start experimenting, changing, or stretching in anyway, the responses to my posts are less than... receptive. Which is fine.

She's my most recent senior portrait session.

I love this girl. She's hilarious. I loved her shoot. She nailed it. There was just nothing but good sh*t happening on that day.

TOTES the opposite of the last time I shot... You know... the "low pressure" shoot, where I wasn't getting paid, because it was a test with the model?

Ah, you win some, you lose some, I guess. :lmao:

I can't wait to go through the rest of her images, but I have another client I have to go through first, before I start hers. Pffffft.

You cut her hand off though. Either a tad bit tighter or a tad not looser IMO.

Exposure, light, focus and post are all good in my opinion. Just wish I could see that hand.


And I totally get what you are saying; step one inch outside of the box here and you'll likely get that toe cut off. =__=
Deviantart is a much better place for the more experimental and artsy stuff; you can still get harsh critique, but you wont be attacked for doing something thats different. I'm not seeing what so different about this shot though. What is it that makes it different to you?

Looks like she's wearing 1940's heavy pinup-style pancake type foundation and lipstick. I don't like the hand chop much either...my brain tells me that I wanna' see her left hand in the frame, doing just about anything...hand on hip...hand on tummy, hand on other elbow, whatever...

It's one pose out of a session...judging by the look of this one single frame,I'd wager that there are probably lots of variations and lotsa' good stuff. it is an interesting use of the compositional space, and that white wall with the horizontal lines from the cinder blocks is kind of a neat location backdrop! In a way, I really like the way the lines on the wall sort of break the background space into discrete sections, which is pretty cool. Her dress color, fit,and dress style coordinate very well with her hair and makeup. This has a modern, vintage-inspired or retro-inspired look to me.

It's different from what *I* usually do. I'm not saying it's ground-breaking or anything. I'm just experimenting with lighting, processing, and the overall feel of the images.

The last time I did that, someone, I forget who, told me that what I had posted was "way below the usual quality they know I am capable of producing ".

That's okay. Because everything you tell me sucks, my one friend tells me is fine, which is enough to get me to pack my bags and book a one-way ticket to NYC for tomorrow night.

(Just kidding. I hate NYC. There's a reason I moved from Pennsylvania to Nashville, and not made the jump to NYC, even though it would have been closer to home. )

I think NYC is amazing! There is endless inspiration on every block, and so much amazing opportunity there that seriously does not exist the way it does there anywhere else. Even if the city challenges you and makes you feel uncomfortable, it is so worth the experience.

I do like the image though, gives the girl a very classy look without it being "hi fashion" or overdone.
