Jessica - new conversion process. Thoughts? Suggestions?

I'll start - YAY! I like this I just wish her middle, pointer, and pinky fingers were just a smidge more relaxed. I think I would also like to see a bit more of that eye. I love the retro throwback feel.

I like it. Really like the slight contrast between hair and background. Nice lighting job.

What have you done differently in conversion that wasn't accomplished by the delicacy of the lighting?

Sorry; not 100% what you mean. I was just meaning that I'd tried a new method for converting images to monochrome, and I was curious as to what others thought of the result. Definitely getting the lighting right is a HUGE help for a good conversion.

My compliments to the chef, seasoned perfectly.

The large version shows excellent detail in the black clothing. There is however, a small area about the size of an egg on the top of her right breast that could be toned down slightly.

Well done on the conversion. Could you address what this new method is? Me likes.

Thank-you sir! I totally missed that hot spot; I'll have to take care of that.
The conversion is pretty basic. I've been using NiK Silver Effex, but haven't been happy with the results (my issue, not the software's I'm sure), and so decided to try a copy of Tiffen's Dfx 2 that I had. It's got very basic monochrome presets, so I picked the one I like, exported it into LR and did some selective brightness and contrast enhancements and that was it.

I meant it was a different process from that which I have used in the past. I had been using NiK Silver Effex Pro, but wasn't overly pleased with the results. This used the monochrome plug-in from Tiffen's Dfx 2 and some "hand-tuning" in LR4.
