Just for fun... ISO/ISO?

I always used 'acronym' to refer specifically to an abbreviation that was pronounced as a word rather than as the individual letters. That is to say that acronym and abbreviation (and initialism for that matter) are not synonymous - they have specific nuances of meaning.
That sounds pretty good to me.

Glad to see you posting again, BTW. You have been missed! :sexywink:

Just to through a few work related acronyms out there ... FOD (Foreign Object Deris/Damage (it's both, debris or damage, depending on context) I always say as a word, as do most other people I work with.

SRM (Structural Repair Manual), IPC (Illustrated Parts Catalog), TO (Technical Order) - I always spell out.

hehe Same here. The world of flying machines I would say trumps Photography when it comes to the acronym overload factor. GFA, METAR, GTOW, OEW, RVR, IFR, VNAV, WAAS, VMA, SCDA blah blah blah

But, I say "Eye-So" but with the Labradorian inflection it's pretty much one syllable. ;)

eye ess oh x7293847091234091734092134092374092834x10 to the millionth

Different language, different pronunciation.

In english is say Ay-Es-Oh...in Dutch it's ISO as one word (and pronounced in Dutch ofcourse ;-) )

So back in the old days.....could they refer to ISO as the "Ass of the film" ?(ASA)?

"Eye-So" here .... but probably switching to I-S-O after hearing all my other photographer buddies say it this way. Just hard to break the habit.

Side topic .... how do you say .gif file. GIFF or JIFF? or G-I-F?

jif I guess...never thought about that one.

I say GIFF (oh, and eye-ess-oh - I forgot to mention that )

I say "eye-so"

Am I not a real photographer now?

For sure.

Even common every-day things... The door to the plane? L1 door - that would be the forward most door on the left side. Lol.

I think for every part of a plane, there is an acronym or abbreviation. I think I could write up a discrepancy without actually using a word longer than 3 letters anywhere on it, and everyone would know what I was talking about and exactly where it was.

Yeah - I usually pronounce it A-S-A. I'm so out-of-touch. :(

I've heard it pronounced both ways. I usually say eye-es-oh, but have been known to say eye-so when in a hurry.

And FTR, I pronounce .gif as GIFF, .tif as TIFF and .jpeg as jay-peg.
