Just getting started again - should I buy a monitor?

Will working at lower than highest native resolutions cause me to end up over-sharpening images to compensate?

Maybe.

I solved the issue by using a second display.

Extra windows, and all my Photoshop work pallets, are all on the 2nd screen. The image I am currently editing is the only one on my primary display.

How does that help? If you are at native resolution in the monitor you are editing the image on, how is it so big? (Maybe I'm looking at the wrong monitor...)
