Just got an iMac. Does anybody use the magic trackpad for their editing?

Can others edit my Photos
Photos OK to edit
I just switched from PC to Mac. Pretty much solely based on the iMac's screen. I LOVE the screen! I hate not having a right click (among other things that I'm sure I will get used to eventually). Oh well.

But my question is, I have the magic mouse and have been using it for editing. I've used a Wacom tablet in the past, but I was wondering if anyone uses the Magic Trackpad (2 is the one I'd get) for their editing? Is it precise enough? I mainly do portraits and the precision would come into play when I dodge and burn and when I retouch skin, etc.

Thanks!
Andy

Congrats on a real OS. You do have right click by holding down control key while tapping your track pad or you can go into system preference, select track pad, select point and click under the drop down under secondary click select click or tap with two fingers. There may other ways to but to right click but don't recall at the moment since I just use either of the two I mention.

You can get a 3rd party mouse with a right button and a scroll wheel for not a lot of scratch. Mine is Logitech. I don't have a Magic Trackpad, and I probably wouldn't bother based on my unhappy experience with the Magic Mouse.

I actually purchased a Wacom, but had trouble adjusting because I learned photoshop on the trackpad. I use it for everything.

I hate not having a right click..
Besides; IIRC you can make the Magic Mouse do a right click anyway. My problem with that mouse was non-reconcilable with the way in which I touched it. Since I did not wish to consciously think of how I touched it every time, I just ditched it.

You should have paid the extra for that feature. I couldn't live without a right click on my Macbook Pro. ;)

Pay extra for the Magic Mouse? I thought they all come with one, and the wireless keyboard.

Yes, it will cost about another $20 for a third-party two-button mouse with scroll wheel, but what the hey, I'm made of money so I didn't mind forking over the dough.

Oh, and OP; be sure to pick up a mousepad at the thrift store. There was no mousepad packaged with my iMac.

The magic mouse and keypad are pretty basic unless you can learn the gestures for your everyday use. I'm at a real disadvantage on a PC because I don't have multiple desktops I can switch between and spotlight to help me pull up apps and files easily. You can set up a right click function very easily on the trackpad if it doesn't come that way default.

Also, my magic mouse has never had any issue picking up motion on solid surfaces without a mouse pad.

I forgot to post a picture of me with my tongue in my cheek. I use a mousepad, but it's mostly because I'm used to it.

Thanks for the right click advice! I'll definitely be setting up that function for whatever I decide to use. I don't love the magic mouse mainly because it's smaller than most mice I've used. I've used the magic mouse for 2 photoshoots so far and my wrist has been a little sore.

I'm mainly interested in the comparison between a graphic tablet and the magic trackpad though. For those of you who use the trackpad for editing, do you find it precise enough?

I used a graphics tablet with my PC before and really liked it for the editing part but didn't like it for navigating etc. Felt clunky switching tasks. I'm hoping the trackpad is a good middle ground?

Thanks for all of the input!!

No, extra for the right click feature.

I don't have the magic trackpad, but it's comparable to the trackpad on the MacBook Pro. That said, I dislike the trackpad for editing, but will use it when I am lazy enough to not get up and get my mouse. I typically use a logitech mouse, but would love to get a Wacom tablet.

Regarding Macs, I thought all of the trackpads had two-finger right-click as default settings nowadays?
