Keeping cool tone

I've recently got my first roll of Pan F + scanned and I love the results. I was looking for some more contrast and had a play about with the curves and exposure settings in Photoshop and got what I was happy with. But when reviewed the images together I could see the original film's tone was lost in some. How would I up the contrast but keep the tone of my image the same?
