kids and locations

My favorite subjects were nice to me this evening and did some good posing. I shot with my 28-135mm and speed light on camera left. I bounced it in my latest umbrella and I think I like the results of bouncing versus shooting through an umbrella. Any thoughts?

Not bad! Your lighting is definitely coming along. Personally, I prefer #1; #2 seems slightly hot (not a lot, maybe 1/3 stop) and there's some slight loss of detail in the skin whereas #1 has great skin tone and shadow. A nicer location and these would have been a couple of real winners!

I agree with John. Look at how vivid your colors are in #1 compared to #2. Your skin is too light in #2 and is a bit overexposed.

Thank you both. I did realize her's was a little hot, but I guess looking at it, I liked the spotlight look.

Do you think that the angle would have helped the location? I was trying to recreate a shot that he had taken at school but may not have gotten the angle right to only show him and the wall.

Not bad. The kids look very cute! Sonny boy's smile--how adorable!!! These are cute shots.

Thanks Derrel. Still practicing and getting better. I switched to bouncing from an umbrella instead of shoot through. I seem to be a little better at it.

Your practicing is getting you there, that's for sure. Number 1 is pretty good all around, from the "technical" side of things, imo. The lighting looks very natural and well rounded (if that makes any sense).

Keep it up! I wish I had willing subjects to use/shoot whenever I could!
