I want to get a nod set up but don't want to spend the money on this setup. Anyone have any other options.

There are lots of other options, Cokin is probably the best of the 'cheapies', but... there's a reason that Lee filters cost what they do!

The filters are the critical part. I don't even bother with the mount, I just hand-hold them when I use them.

Yes. The adapter ring and plate-filter holder are built like tanks. I'll never need to replace them.
