lenses for animal portraits

I want to start taking animal pics and portraits. What type of lens will I need with my 10D? 50mm, 100mm?

For portraits in general, I use my Canon 85mm f1.8 and for about $60 bucks more there is no reason why you should not also get the 50mm f1.8. Both are great lenses.
