Lenses you've had an emotional attachment to

Just out of curiosity, what lenses have you felt some sort of inexplicable connection with. Speaking of beyond pure technical prowess of the lens and on to some sort of level of "it just got you."

I think for me:

Canon 70-200 f/2.8 IS II L
Tamron 60mm f/2 macro/portrait hybrid (DX)
Fuji 23mm f/2 integrated lens (X100T series)
Tokina 11-16 f/2.8 (DX) (no built in focus motor version)

Looking at this list, kinda weird that I found a special place in my heart for 3 APS-C lenses, and only one full frame lens. Maybe that's me subconsciously justifying selling off most of my full frame gear, except the 80-200 2 ring. Also, I guess it's kinda weird that no Nikon made the list, though 5 were really close. They were all in the "really, really like" category, but not like emotionally attached to them.

I almost sold it, since it came with the camera and I already had a 50/1.8. My Nikon 35/2 has turned out to be irreplaceable.

An emotional attachment? The Takumar 28-80mm f3.5 that I bought with my K1000. It was the first lens I ever bought and the only one I owned for almost 20 years. I've since got a few more lenses for the Pentax, including the 50mm f1.7 that I looooooove, but for sentimental reasons, I'll never give up my Takumar.

105mm f/2.5 Ai-S...bought a brand-new one the month it was released in the Ai-S version with CrC or close-range-correction floating element system and built in sliding lens hood. I got it mail-order from NYC in the early 1980's. I was about 18, 19 years old then. Still have it. One of the most-important lenses in Nikon's rise to fame in the decade of the 1960's was based on the one-oh-five two-point-five. SUPER-easy to focus by hand and eye.

70-200 VR...got one the week it was released, almost by accident at my favorite brick & mortar store. Man, oh man, oh man, was that thing ever the shizz when it was new!!!

Those two were probably the lenses I had the most deep and enduring affection for.

I have an emotional attachment to the lowly 50mm 1.8 mkII

it's only a $50 lens but it's been in my gear bag for over five (5) years

maybe some day I will spend more for a lens

70-200 2.8 VR2. It was the lens I most ground my teeth over buying because I sooooooooooooooooooooo wanted it, and I soooooooooo knew that the 80-200 2.8 would be "fine"... and I bought it anyway.

I don't really get emotionally attached to things. I like what I've shot with various lenses but not the hardware its self. Just like I don't care what fork I use to eat a steak I cooked.

Ok Just out of curiosity, since you have had an emotional attachment ( ) to so may lenses, exactly how many wives have you had??? At least with the lenses you don't have to buy them a house.

None, its a tool not something I feel emotions too but I can tell you as of yet my favorite lens I own or ever owned is the Tamron 70-200mm 2.8 VC
It sounds like a very specialized lens but its actually a great general use lens good for almost everything except landscape.

Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM One of the first L lenses I got. It can do most everything, including landscapes! (though not many landscapes lol)

Back in the film-only days, I found I had a trust-thing going on with my ol' Nikkor 180mm, f/2.8. I knew it could/would deliver an exceptional image more often than not ... in spite of the operator. With digital I replace my 180mm with the 70-200 f/2.8 and even a 200mm f/2.8 prime ... but it was the same ... similar but no cigar.

I'm now shooting APS-C ... and the 50-140 f/2.8 is replacing the 70-200 ... I hope I can harmonize with that lens as I did with the Nikkor.
