Lighting equipment

Amazon is like any other site hit and miss. If you know a good site let me know I will check them out! Thanks

How about sites that specialize in photography equipment? Sites like:
www.adorama.com
www.bhphotovideo.com
www.calumetphoto.com
www.alienbees.com

You're not exactly being helpful with information either. Your budget is "Don't have a price range nothing to expensive though". I've spent at least $5,000 on lighting equipment and accessories. Is that nothing too expensive or is $500 your limit. Without an actual number I could waste my time putting together an excellent recommendation for a 3 monolight kit with accessories and end up being $1,000 over your budget. So until them, buy this - Broncolor Minipuls Location Kit 3 31.456.07 B&H Photo Video=

If I were you I would start with a kit like this:

3 Elinchrom Ranger heads:
Elinchrom Ranger Free Lite A Flash Head EL 20101 B&H Photo Video
3 Power packs (one for each head):
Elinchrom Ranger RX Speed AS Asymmetrical Battery EL 10267 B&H
Skyport Trigger:
Elinchrom Skyport SPEED Transmitter EL 19350 B&H Photo Video
3 Skyport Receivers:
Elinchrom ELS Universal SPEED Receiver EL 19347 B&H Photo Video
3 C-stands:
Sachtler C-Stand Turtle Base 6762 B&H Photo Video
Deep Octa:
Elinchrom 39" Rotalux Deep OctaBox EL 26185 B&H Photo Video
Octa Bank:
Elinchrom Octa Light Bank for Flash - 74" EL 26158 B&H
2 Strip Boxes:
Elinchrom 13x69" Striplite Softbox EL 26160 B&H Photo Video
Beauty Dish:
Elinchrom 27" White Maxisoft Reflector EL 26169 B&H Photo
That should cover basic situations. You might need to modify that list to fit your style.

Or, you might find that a Vivitar flash, umbrella, stand, cactus trigger, & bracket fit better into your style... It just depends...

redtippmann you gave me somethings to think about. I haven't looked to much into lighting or how I would use it I know that I will need it for indoors since lighting is bad. I am just beginning so I haven't done many outdoor photos. I just started in January and rain has been a great issue plus working around everyones schedule to do photos. I have family helping me and some friends for my practice. But hope one day to be good at newborn, family, children seniors and boudoir. But time will tell

Village Idiot - Don't know my budget I would like to spend no more then $1000.00. I would like something for a starter then maybe later upgrade to something better. I still have lots to learn but not the time I would like. Thanks for the sites I will take a look I don't believe we have a camera shop within 20 miles only big box stores. Thanks again!!

Well, what kind of camera do you have? If you are just starting out, perhaps a speedflash would be more your speed as well as a lot more versatile. If you want to go studio stuff on the cheap, check out alienbees...good quality and relatively affordable.

If I were you, though, I would look at a couple of speed flashes that are compatible with your camera body until you get your feet wet.

Well you might want to go with a vivitar 285HV. I have one, they have a decent amount of power, and you can use them anywhere. Then you would need something to sync your flash to your camer so they go off at the same time. For that I would get a cactus brand trigger. They are not the most reliable but they are a good price (I still use my cactus V2 units, only twice they didn't have enough range, which is still good for $18 each). And as far as light modifiers go I would start with a 2-in-1 umbrella. They are really easy to set up, and thet are fairly forgiving as far as placing them (because they tend to throw light around especially inside)

I don't think the OP was interested in chroma key. And even so, I would still buy from a much better store like adorama.

I have a canon t2i it was an upgrade from my point n shoot. I would of loved to get a better camera just not in the budget yet, one day. I only have the kit lenses which have been looking to get more but nothing is cheap so it will take time for me to save up the money. Any suggestions for lenses??? I just ordered backdrops and just want to make sure my lighting it correct, glad I have lots of family that will be willing to let me take my time.

If you are only interested in studio type shots where you set everything up and nothing much changes, I would consider something like AlienBees: Illuminating the Galaxy with Professional Photographic Lighting Equipment plus a remote from their remotes page.

If you want to be a little more versatile and think you will be shooting in other people's homes, parties, on the go, etc, I would go with something like this... 1946B002 Canon Speedlite 580EX II, Shoe Mount Flash with Guide Number of 190 Feet / 58m at ISO 100, U.S.A. Warranty

Actually, regardless of what you shoot, I think just about everybody should have at least one speedlight that they can mount to their hot shoe and rotate the flash head. It completely changes indoor photography and opens up a lot of options for you, like candid shots, that a studio set doesn't quite work for.

You should be pro by now if you bought your camera in January, there are loads on here that buy a camera on the Saturday and they are pro by Monday

Well if I had the time maybe but with young children I don't have time until they are asleep. I have a spouse that works 12 hours a day and no daycare options. I do things when I have the time if nothing else I will be ready later. I guess the other bad things is it is only warm for 4 months here and I hate the cold, something I should be over. So if someday's you have no time when should I learn? Maybe when I'm on here, lol. I have been told don't take money until you are ready and from some remarks on here I'm not ready. As for the area I live in I don't see much beauty in it so I don't like to take photos of landscaping. I do how ever have a practice shoot tomorrow to see if I am getting better with a friend, which is more help then my family as they are all busy with there children. I would like to do this so at some point I can bring money in and not put it all on my spouses shoulders. So give me a suggestion on that if you have any. When does someone become a pro??? I'm not going to say I am one until I feel ready and I'm still nervous when I do photos. I have done 5 shoots for people which I see my own flaws in but they thought they were great, newborn photos can out the best. Didn't get to many bad remarks on those. Thanks!!;)

Spelling, punctuation, grammar, well thought out sentences, as well as separation of thought, will send you leaps and bounds above your competition. Hell, you don't even need a camera at this point and you're miles ahead. Let's start with the basics.

Are we on here for spelling, grammar, punctuation etc???? I get on here less then 5 mins at a time if you would like to come here and become my nanny, cook, maid and pay all the bills I will sit and worry about all that stuff. I believe some on here are just looking to make jabs at others to make themselves feel better it is a shame people have to sink to that level. What kind of professional are you is this the way you treat your clients. Do you make fun of them after they leave you place of business?? Ifyoudontlikewhatiwriteonheredontreaditsimpleasthatimnotonhereforschool. Thanks Ya'll:lmao:

You want to be taken seriously, don't you? These are matters of concern, especially when dealing with clients. The devil is in the details. If you wish to ignore them, so will I. Good luck.
