If you wife sews any round pattern like a tree skirt divided into 3 sections. Fill with sand. Sew velcro on the slit.

Sandbag and shot bag. The shot bag is actually heavier and easier to use, especially when the thing you are weighting is close to the floor.

Steel shot! NOT lead shot. You do NOT want a bag of lead shot to burst when you're on location!

Lead, like sand, is usually in a sealed bag within the outer heavy canvas bag and the shot size is quite large. I've never seen one burst in 40 years, however. Lead is mostly used for the smaller bags to keep them small - 5 to 10 lb. Anyway, here's the location for the bags: on a brace on a lightstand; on the leg on a C-stand. A Lowel weight is also shown, slotted over the brace of the lightstand.

Ahhhh! I seee! Thank you. I've got a "ring" of weight that I drape over the top of the legs on mine. This makes so much more sense-less size.

Granted it's unlikely, but lead is starting be considered a hazardous material in many circumstances, and particularily if you're working at a school or similar facility, it's IMO, a risk not worth taking. Studio use, etc? Sure... lead 100%.

BBs are cheap and easy to get and non-toxic.
